Discontinued Database – Teen Health

One of the last databases to be cut has been removed- Teen Health.  I have removed from the website and Homework Help but if you should see a link for it somewhere, refresh your page and if it is still there then let me know the url of the page where you found it.

WebFeat or Quick Search

Today the Quick Search link under Find Information has been disconnected.  The was the link to WebFeat our federated search engine.  Since WebFeat’s end of live is December 2010, we decided to help with Virtual Library staff work load we would stop maintaining now rather than run it through December. WorldCat Link

The WorldCat link on Voyager will be changing next Friday from First Search to the free WorldCat.org.  This change is happening as we are discontinuing First Search. As a reminder in an earlier post this week, WorldCat Z39.50 search for ILL will also be discontinued on Thursday July 29th.

Standard and Poors – Discontinued

The Library District has discontinued Standard and Poors.  We will continue to offer Morningstar with only 5 users at a time licensing.

Grolier’s Amazing Animals – Discontinued

Amazing Animals has also been discontinued by the Library District and links will be remove very shortly. For Animal Reports have students use: Middle Search Plus (This is where EBSCO provides access to the Encyclopedia of Animals) WorldBook Online Searchasaurus (for younger students)

Greenwood Databases – Discontinued

New Book of Popular Science

The New Book of Popular Science will be only be available till January 28th.  It has be discontinued as of January 29th.

Mango Languages Discontinued

Mango Languages has been discontinued and the link will be removed within a day or two.  We still offer Auralog Language Learning for patrons who want to learn or brush up on their language skills.

World Access News by NewsBank Discontinued

World Access News (formerly known as Global Newsbank)  database has been discontinued.  For current global news we offer Press Display along with the print papers.

Obituaries Collection by ProQuest Discontinued

Due to the collection development budget being cut we have identified several databases to be dropped when they come due.  The Obituaries Collection by Proquest is one of those databases.  The link is working but will be removed early next week when Jon get’s back. Discontinued Databases in Newsbank

We are discontinuing Acceda Noticias and the Las Vegas Review Journal in Newsbank.  You can still access the RJ via Proquest’s link  under Las Vegas Review Journal on the Database A-Z list.

ELibrary has been discontinued

We are discontinuing eLibrary database as of today.  The link is still working but will be removed shortly.

MyLibraryDV

MyLibraryDV has been discontinued.

BookFlix Being Cancelled

As of today we will no longer subscribe to BookFlix.  Unfortunatley, this a budget decision.  If you have patrons who like reading picture books online or young children who enjoy listening to stories please refer them to the OverDrive collection at Ebooks To Go.

Global Road Warrior

As of September 1, Global Road Warrior is cancelled.  I know many of you were interested in the Maps A-Z collection this vendor offered.  In January we will review our budget to see if there are funds to pickup it.

Tutor.com Is Going Bye-Bye

As of July 31, 2009 Live Homework Help (Tutor.com) is no longer available from the Library.  Please refer your students to BrainFuse (HelpNow!).  We tried both of these services and BrainFuse (HelpNow!) was much more popular with students.  It also provides on-going tutoring services not just help with a single homework question.
