New patrons using OverDrive e-books, e-audio, e-music and e-video has grown steady over the past year (July 1, 2007 through may 31, 2008). During this time period we had 2,875 new patrons signup for the service with steady increases each month.

Good article at cnn about e-books. It makes the point that when paperback novels where introduced in the 1930s they where scoffed at but look at them now. E-book readers are getting closer to what people want and technology is not far off to giving people what they want. Publishers are finding it profitable to publish new releases in both print and digital format.

E-books and e-audio books are considered a database. This means the patron must be a resident in the taxing district of LVCCLD. If they live in Henderson, Boulder City or North Las Vegas they are not eligible for accessing and/or downloading the eMedia collections.
