NetLibrary Now Offers MP3 Audio Books April 16, 2009

Netlibrary now has MP3 format available for eaudio books. Attached is a list of titles for adults and Children/YA. There are 746 titles for adults and 69 titles for children and/or YA. These titles will work on iPods formatted with a Windows computer. They are still working on MAC computers and hope to launch this summer software which will allow the MP3 format to play on iPods formated with MAC computers.

NetLibrary tries again with their new interface for finding eaudio books, downloading and transferring them. I just tried it on Vista computer and it went very smoothly. I was able to download an eaudio book and listen to it. A big improvement over the first try with the software in January. Patrons can get the new NetLibrary Media Center just by logging into their NetLibrary account. There is a nice graphic in the center of the page like this:
Clicking the graphic leads them to a page where they can download the NetLibrary Media Center. If your patron needs a NetLibrary account they can get one by going to the eMedia page on the library’s website and clicking the link “Get a NetLibrary Account”. They can even setup the account from home!

Today, Monday March 30 we got the new MARC records and uploaded them to the Library catalog. We now own 2314 titles instead of 2565 titles. The difference is mainly in the removal of the language titles which are no longer included in our subscription. It will be interesting to see what new titles we do get.

We are having a problem with the downloadable books at NetLibrary/Recorded Books. It appears they have switched our account to the new model without telling us. This means that a large number of titles in the Library catalog are no longer accessible to our patrons. Chris is in the process of deleting all the NetLibrary/Recorded book records in the library catalog. She will reload Netlibrary records when they become available from OCLC. We do not have an ET on it so in the meantime, direct patrons directly to NetLibrary/Recorded Books. After logging in (or if in the library) they will see on the right hand side a box labeled “In Our Collection”. These are the books we now own.

On Sunday April 6th, NetLibrary will upgrading their servers which includes IP and domain changes. The Virtual Library and our IT department are working with our equipment and vendors to make this a smooth transition. If patrons are having problems with NetLibrary, they may need to clear their cache then close and re-open their browser window.
