The Renaissance – beginning in Italy in the mid 1300s – was a time of change for Medieval Europe. Known as the golden age of art and architecture, the Renaissance was also a time of great advancement in literature. William Shakespeare wrote more than 35 plays during this time, including “Romeo and Juliet,” “Macbeth” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
